Amazon has just wrapped up its annual shopping extravaganza, Prime Day. The numbers for last weekend’s two-day event are staggering. In releasing the stats, Amazon said Prime members 95% of PIN codes in India purchased during this year’s event, and more than 32,000 sellers had their biggest sales day ever.
Compared to last year, 1.5x more customers signed up for Prime membership, with 2 out of 3 new members joining from outside the top 10 cities. Amazon said Prime Day entertainment programming on Prime Video was watched by Prime members in more than 3,800 Indian cities and towns and in more than 230 countries and territories.
Prime Video’s top Hindi release for Prime Day was Jug Jugg Jeeyoand just before the event was the streaming of the Telugu hit Sarkaru Vaari Paata.
As it happens, both films, according to a statement from Amazon, did extremely well on the platform. Another new film for the occasion was Rocket: The Nambi Effectwhich started to be broadcast since yesterday.
Sarkaru Vaari Patta watched outside Telugu States
“All the movies released during the period leading up to Prime Day had a huge consumer response, becoming some of the most watched movies in their respective languages in just a few days,” Amazon said.
In just 3 days of its release on Prime Video, Jug Jugg Jeeyo is one of the most watched Hindi films of 2022 on the service, with audiences in over 210 countries and territories tuned in to watch the film.
Jug Jugg Jeeyo stars Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor in the leads, and is directed by Raj Mehta. Set in Patiala, Punjab, the film’s story is a sentimental and fun ride in a family that is going through a relationship crisis.
According to the streamer, Sarkaru Vaari Patta (Telugu) received huge pan-Indian audience, and more than 60% of the movie’s viewers were from outside their home states (Andhra and Telangana).
Sarkaru Vaari Paata is an action comedy film that revolves around the conflict between a financial agent who is deceived by a woman and the latter’s father, a deputy and industrialist. It stars Mahesh Babu and Keerthy Suresh in the leads, along with Vennela Kishore and Subbaraju.
Launch of Prime Day in English, F9: The Fast Sagait was said to have been watched in over 2,500 cities and towns across India within just 3 days of its release.
“In the run-up to Prime Day, the most streamed songs on Amazon Prime Music were Kesariya (from Brahmastra) by Arijit Singh, Pritam & Amitabh Bhattacharya in Hindi, Kalaavathi (from Sarkaru Vaari Paata) by Thaman S & Sid Sriram in Telugu and Vikram – Anirudh Ravichander’s title track in Tamil.”
