Now we have a good idea of what Apple is planning with the iPhone 14 series, due out in September, and a newly leaked image of smartphone cases gives us more clues about the sizes of upcoming devices.
This image is courtesy of Duan Rui (opens in new tab) on Twitter (via 9to5Google (opens in new tab)), and we see how the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 14 Pro Max line up next to each other. The Plus model is new for 2022, while the mini edition of the phone has apparently been dropped.
There seems to be some debate as to whether the larger non-Pro iPhone 14 will be called the Plus or Max. Here it’s labeled the iPhone 14 Plus, which matches a recent leak we found just a few days ago.
screens and cameras
Of course, Apple has used the Plus moniker before on its iPhones, most recently with the iPhone 8 Plus in 2017. That naming scheme was dropped and Apple began adding “Max” to the titles of its larger phones. This year looks like it can go either way.
According to previous rumors, it appears that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will have 6.1-inch screens, while the iPhone 14 Plus (or iPhone 14 Max) and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be up to 6.7-inches in terms of display. screen size – very matching iPhone 13 model.
When it comes to the camera bumps, they look a lot like the current iPhone 13 lineup settings, although there may be a slight variation in spacing – you may not necessarily be able to use the iPhone 13 case with the iPhone 14.
Review: The ever-changing iPhone range
It used to be a lot easier – Apple released an iPhone every year, and that was it. Then 2013 arrived, and we had the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C unveiled at the same time at the same event, giving buyers a choice for the first time.
We now receive four flagship iPhones every September in addition to the iPhone SE. For the past two years it’s been the same standard: a standard iPhone, an iPhone mini, an iPhone Pro, and an iPhone Pro Max, so there are more models to choose from than ever before.
With the iPhone 14, it looks like the selection is changing again. It has long been speculated that there won’t be an iPhone 14 mini (in fact, it was a surprise that the iPhone 13 mini appeared) – apparently not many people are interested in a smaller phone.
While it makes more sense to have an iPhone 14 and an iPhone 14 Max, then an iPhone 14 Pro and an iPhone 14 Pro Max (perhaps with a faster processor), these rumors about the Plus brand just won’t go away. We’ll have to wait and see.
