While we’ve heard a lot of leaks about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, we haven’t seen much of it yet, and what appeared to be our best possible design vision could be wrong.
This according to TechTalkTV (opens in new tab)who claimed on Twitter that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4’s camera layout will be almost exactly the same as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3’s, rather than showing off a new design we’ve seen in unofficial renders shared by @OnLeaks – a leaker with a large historic.
These renders showed a camera design that looks more inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, with lenses protruding directly from the back rather than being housed in a distinct camera block.

It’s not a big difference though, because both the renders and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 include three vertical lenses, with a flash below them. It’s just that the Z Fold 3 – and according to this latest leak also the Z Fold 4 – has a metal housing around the lens.
We’d take that statement with a pinch of salt, especially since OnLeaks has more of a track record (although TechTalkTV has also accurately leaked stuff in the past), but OnLeaks replied to the tweet (opens in new tab) simply saying “Damn” so it doesn’t sound like they are disputing the statement.
If you were expecting an updated design, that might be a shame, but it’s not all bad news, as in a follow-up tweet (opens in new tab) TechTalkTV also stated that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 “will definitely have a 50MP main camera”.
This isn’t a new claim – several other leakers have already said this, but hearing it from another source makes it increasingly likely, and that would make an upgrade – in megapixels at least – to the Galaxy Z Dobra 3’s 12MP main camera.
Review: Much-needed camera improvements
If we had to choose between a new design or a new sensor, we’d definitely pick up a new sensor, as while the 12MP main on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is good, it’s far from exceptional.
The 50MP rumor here is likely the same 50MP sensor that the Samsung Galaxy S22 has, and we were quite impressed with its performance. Saying that, given how expensive the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is sure to be, we’d rather have the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 108MP sensor – but we’ll take what we can.
Previous leaks also point to other camera upgrades, with various sources suggesting the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will sport a telephoto camera with a 3x optical zoom, up from the 2x optical zoom on the Z Fold 3. Again, this isn’t such a huge improvement. how much we’d ideally like it, but it’s so much better than nothing. Still, from what we’ve heard so far, we’re not sure the Z Fold 4 will be bothering our list of the best camera phones.
